Description:
Storholmen Archeological Open Air Museum in Roslagen, Sweden. Storholmen Viking Village is an Archeological Open Air Museum. It is run by a foundation and has a non-profit support association. The purpose of the museum is to reanimate history, and in a tangible way, give people of different age and backgrounds an exciting insight into the Viking Age by ecouraging them to take part in activities that demonstrate how everyday life was led in the Viking Age, like trying ancient handicraft first-hand. The focus is on the home life of the Vikings. The staff is dressed in authentic clothing, providing living history experiences for scool children, guided tours and events for groups, and living history aimed at tourists and other visitors during summer. Surroundings and location Storholmen Viking Village lies just by the lake Erken, next to the museum is an Iron Age Burial ground and Nature Preserve. 166 Viking Age burial mounds lie among large oak trees. At a short walking distance lies a charming inn from the 18:th century, and a beach. Storholmen Viking village lies 80 kilometres from Sweden's capital city Stockholm, 70 kilometres from Uppsala and 10 kilometres north of the town Norrtälje.
